Mentorship · Built by rowers, for rowers

One conversation can
change a young rower's
trajectory.

Athlete Journey connects rowers at grassroots clubs with current GB national team athletes for guided, one-to-one mentorship sessions. Closing the access gap, one conversation at a time.

The Gap

The right guidance
shouldn't depend on
which school you
went to.

Elite private schools have alumni networks, dedicated rowing staff, and constant guidance on US recruitment, training pathways, and life as an athlete. Grassroots clubs rarely have any of that.

The talent is the same. The information isn't. We're here to fix that — by giving your athletes a single, safeguarded conversation with someone who's already walked the path.

“I nearly missed key opportunities through lack of knowledge. I don't want anyone else to.”

Miles Beeson — Founder, GB rower

For Clubs

How it works

Three simple steps from your boathouse to a GB-level conversation.

01

Coaches nominate

The clubs we work with select athletes who would benefit most and submit a short form providing context for the nomination.

02

Athletes complete a quick profile

Nominated athletes tell us about their goals and interests. This helps us match them with the right mentor and gives structure to the session.

03

We match and connect

We pair each athlete with a GB-level mentor for a one-off video chat. No pressure, just perspective — advice, inspiration, and real talk.

Help your athletes see what's possible.

Each founding club receives a limited allocation of mentoring credits, redeemable for 1-to-1 sessions.

The Mentors

Current GB athletes.
Real experience.
Generous with
their time.

Our mentor pool is drawn from the Great Britain senior and U23 squads — rowers who have lived the pathways your athletes are dreaming about. Every mentor is vetted by our team and committed to safeguarded, focused conversations.

For safeguarding, mentees only see the mentor they're matched with.

Safeguarding

Built safe. Built for parents, coaches, and UK Sport.

Safeguarding isn't a feature we bolted on — it's the architecture. Every conversation is mediated by the platform so your duty of care stays intact.

Platform-mediated comms

No email addresses or phone numbers shared between mentor and mentee. Ever.

Guardian consent for U18s

Explicit consent and age confirmation captured at signup, in line with UK Sport requirements.

Admin oversight

All messages reviewable by our safeguarding team. Users are told this at signup and in T&Cs.

Audit logged

Every admin action affecting a mentee record is logged. Full trail, on request.

Approved mentors only

Every mentor is vetted and approved by our team before they take a single session.

GDPR-aligned

Minors-first data minimisation. Plain-English privacy policy. Right to be forgotten honoured.

Athlete Journey exists to make sure that never happens to another rower with the talent and drive to go all the way.
